Learning Management System Targets and Ways to Achieve Them
I had mentioned that there are 3 highly important aspects that have an influence on choosing an LMS: budget, audience and goals, in the post that I put up on the eve of Thanksgiving, titled “Choosing a Learning Management System: Three Major Factors to Guide You”. I was able to come out with other valuable pointers while thinking about it later.
It has to be noted that there is no equal division among these factors. Well, the aspects of budget and audience are pretty easy to understand as they are straightforward. But the part concerning goals is completely dependant on many other simpler factors. Innovativeness, imagination and positive attitude are some of the mini-factors.
You should make some balancing acts so that you get a perfect blend of things. After all, your learning management system course would be greatly effective only if this balance is achieved.
Anyone would find it easy to follow simple course materials when compared to those with heavy content. Adding too much of flash content in your course material would certainly be a drawback. A boring and non-interactive content would be a drawback as well. You cannot attract potential takers if the course is dry and devoid of uninteresting content.
Now, let’s look at the objectives part of the course you are going to design. You need to have an idea on why the training should be online. You should also be aware of what makes an LMS special.
You would have already been aware of the fact that a good learning management system can be created only by using a combination of professional software applications. Finding the right combination of these software applications means that half of your work is complete.
What are the things that you are going to add to your LMS module? Would video content really be of use for your students? Are there any particular things that could be only taught most effectively using both visual and audio media?
Flash based applications are the ones that are most sought by many LMS makers. A good example for this is Rapid Intake Unison which lets experts create and manipulate Flash-based learning material.
Rapid Intake Unison is very much user-friendly and one need not be an expert in Flash to use it to create content. Even an elementary knowledge of Flash is not required in order to use it. It is enough for you to fill in form based templates in order to create interactive learning modules.
Apart from the multimedia content you should also concentrate on the duration of the course. The availability of the trainer is equally important as that of the trainee. Is it really important to have both online as well as personal components in the training? It doesn’t matter what answer you give for this question but it is important to know the amount of time spent by the trainer for the course.
Use your learning management system’s time saving tools such as the ones used for evaluation and grading to the maximum. You can save a lot of time with these automation tools. You can conduct quizzes at regular intervals in order to test the students’ knowledge. In majority of the cases, employees don’t utilize the knowledge they received during training completely in their work. And the trainees can keep the information in their mind permanently only if you quiz them regularly. These are some ways that you can adopt in order to make your learning management system an effective and successful one.
